This project was born from a desire to create a bridge between universities and secondary schools. It was developed within the context of the course Histoire de la langue française au Canada (FRA 3559), taught by France Martineau, professor at the University of Ottawa, during the winter of 2005. In this course, university students created thematic modules related to the secondary school curriculum and gave a workshop in a high school classroom. The workshop had a dual purpose:

  1. to familiarize secondary school students with the linguistic, historical and cultural heritage of Canadian French;
  2. to create a mentoring relationship between high school students and university students intending to become teachers.

The project was funded by the EducAction program of the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost, and by the educational component of the MCRI (SSHRC) project Modelling Change: The Paths of French. Under the supervision of France Martineau, the project was created by Emilie Aubut, Annie Avard, Amélie Bisson and Véronique Nolet. We thank Nadine Ménard from Embrun Secondary School who collaborated with us on this project and made it possible by welcoming it into her classroom.
